When traveling, we all want to take photos to make memories of the places we visit.

But the truth is, many people have a hard time figuring out how they will take full pictures of themselves when traveling alone.

The good news is that we have lined up several clever ways to take good full photos of yourself when traveling solo.

How to take good pictures when traveling alone

The following are tips for taking pictures when alone on a vacation or when traveling:

1. Use a lightweight mini tripod

Though I mostly travel solo, I have managed to get great quality pics, thanks to my mini lightweight tripod that comes with a wireless remote.

What I love most about this mini tripod is that I don’t have to set a timer.

When you are using the mini tripod, you simply need to set the camera perfectly on the tripod, then pose, and when you feel ready, you just click on the remote to take a picture.

Fortunately, it is easy to find great quality and affordable lightweight mini tripods.

For instance, I bought mine on Amazon for use when traveling. It is really great when you want to find the perfect angle for a clean shot since it is adjustable at any angle.

The Octopus legs style also makes it easy to use absolutely anywhere. You can wrap it around poles, branches, and even on a bicycle and take a good photo of yourself.

2. Use a selfie stick

A good selfie stick is one that can be collapsed down to fit perfectly into your backpack, and also one that can be transformed into a standalone tripod.

A self stick is definitely a good investment when traveling solo because it will enable you to take photos of yourself without the need of asking anyone to take a photo of you or setting a time.

What I love about this selfie stick is the fact that it can be converted to a tripod. It also comes with a wireless remote that makes it possible to take full photos when traveling solo.

3. Use Apple Watch to take pictures

Did you know you can take pics from a distance if you have an iPhone and an Apple watch?

You only need to stream the iPhone’s camera view on the watch. This means that you can open your camera’s app on the watch.

The watch will then show you what the camera sees. You can adjust accordingly for a perfect shot, then set the shutter timer to take a shot.

5. Book a professional photographer at your destination

You can also book a professional photographer at your destination.

It will be worth every penny. Why?

You will end up getting very high-quality pictures and have great picture memories of your destination.

6. Ask strangers to take pictures of you

Asking strangers to take a full photo of you has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of asking strangers to take a photo of you:

  • It is a good way of making friends
  • You get to have a full photo of yourself taken. Most strangers will not decline your request.

Disadvantages of asking a stranger to take a photo of you:

  • It can be awkward, especially if you have never done it before.
  • Some, if not most, will have zero interest in making sure that they take a good photo. Therefore, you mostly may end up with not-so-pleasing pictures.
  • You never know their intentions. For example, they may end up running off with your phone or camera.

Best tips for asking strangers to take a picture of you

  • Ask people who have more professional cameras to take a picture of you with your camera.

They will most probably have good photography skills, and you will end up with great quality photo than from a random stranger.

I once requested a stranger who had a huge lens camera to take a full picture of me from my phone. I ended up with great pictures that looked amazingly perfect.

  • If you feel shy to ask a stranger, then spot other travelers and request them to take a picture of you.

Great chances are that they will also want you to return the favor, and will make you feel comfortable.
