If you are traveling outside the US and wonder if T-Mobile has good coverage in Spain, you will find this article very helpful.
This is based on our first-hand experience using T-Mobile in Spain.
How is T-Mobile coverage in Spain?
When we arrived in Spain, the data speeds were very slow. However, the speed improved after we received the T-Mobile welcome to Spain message.
Generally, our experience with T-mobile throughout Spain (mostly in the Southern and Eastern parts of Spain) on the 2G data was very slow, but the speeds improved when we purchased an add-on.
However, we realized that this was also an expensive alternative.
NOTE: From experience, if you have a postpaid plan when traveling to Spain, you may end up getting very slow data speeds. |

When is the T-Mobile 2G speed worth it when traveling to Spain?
Most people wonder whether or not they should purchase the T-Mobile add-on for faster speeds. This is what I’d recommend:
- If you’re looking for good access to fast data speeds when in Spain, I’d recommend you go for an eSIM like Airalo eSIM or purchase a local SIM card.
Since we were working while traveling, we found this to be a great but cheaper option because we needed to have good data speeds while traveling.
- If your only concern is accessing Google maps, then I recommend sticking to the 2G speed since you will have access to free wifi at restaurants, hotels, bars, and e.t.c
Additionally, you can download Google maps for use when offline. This will help you whenever the data speeds are so slow to even access Google maps.

Final Word
To ensure that you stay connected when traveling to Spain, I’d highly recommend that you have a backup plan.
Our experience may not be the same as yours. And considering that things change with time, having a backup plan won’t hurt.
This could mean doing more research on the best local SIM cards for travelers visiting Spain or the best eSIM that gives you affordable rates.
